Pregnancy is a special time in a woman’s life and with it comes special needs. At Tailored Pilates our instructors are certified with the Pre/Post-Natal Specialist Pilates Certification from The Centre for Women’s Fitness. This is a specialist program that specifically addresses the needs of pre and post natal women. This program takes in to consideration the unique physiological and anatomical changes that occur during and after pregnancy. The result being a safe, beneficial and extremely important exercise program.
We can’t tell you for sure that if you are very fit and strong your labour will be a breeze, no one can predict what will happen. What we can say is that if you follow our program you will more than likely have a less problematic pregnancy and a faster recovery after childbirth. Our exercises are designed to open and release the body while maintaining its strength and integrity. Our aim during the pregnancy is to realign the body, particularly the pelvis, to facilitate a successful “natural” birth and to also safely maintain the integrity and strength of the abdominals and the pelvic floor.
Post partum we believe correct exercises can be resumed very soon after the birth. If left too long without any rehab, a post partum body can be set up for problems later in life. Before resuming any exercise program you need to rehabilitate three major areas; the pelvic floor, the abdominals and the spine – basically what is known as the core. These areas need to be strengthened and stabilized. Our program will concentrate on these areas plus strengthening the upper body to counteract the strain of breastfeeding and of course carrying your new baby!
