I’m still a kid – How will Pilates help me?

You’re never too young to start doing Pilates. In fact Joseph Pilates based many Pilates exercises on the movements of babies and children.
The Pilates movement supports natural growth, and the stretching and decompression benefits of Pilates are especially appealing to children. Practicing Pilates will make them feel tall, strong and self-confident. Because Pilates emphasises uniform development, kids aren’t trained to develop one favourite muscle group. Instead, all muscles, large and small alike, are developed evenly and concurrently, helping kids with overall strength, flexibility and coordination. Because Pilates exercises encourage children to be more aware and in control of their movements, children are better able to develop poise, confidence and balance.
Pilates is a disciplined exercise program so it can pose a special challenge for the young. It is however a challenge well worth tackling. The results will be a great physical and mental foundation for developing skills and interest in sports, dance, gymnastics and a healthy zest for life!
